The upcoming Trump–Putin Alaska summit on August 15, 2025, is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in global diplomacy, with far-reaching geopolitical implications. US President Donald Trump said that the next meeting will be with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders. Trump further said, "Immediately after that meeting, maybe when I'm flying, maybe when I'm leaving the room, I'll call the European leaders with whom I have a very good relationship
US President Donald Trump on Monday said he expects a "constructive" discussion with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as they meet for a high-level meeting in Alaska on Friday (August 15). The talks come amid Washington's efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict, which is nearing four years. "I'm going to talk to Vladimir Putin. I'm going to tell him we have to end this war. He will not mess with me. This war would never have happened. It could have been World War III," he said at a press conference.
He said, "I think I have a very good relationship with all of them, and I get along well with Zelensky, but, you know, I disagree with their work, very, very seriously disagree... I will talk to Zelensky. The next meeting will be with Zelensky and Putin, or Zelensky and Putin. If they need me, I will be there."
Trump 'unhappy' with Zelensky
The US President also said he was unhappy with Zelensky for refusing to make territorial concessions to Russia. He confirmed the talks of land swap, saying, "I was a little troubled by the fact that Zelensky was saying, 'Well, I have to get constitutional approval. I mean, he's got approval to go to war and kill everybody, but he needs approval to swap land? Because there will be a land swap.'"
Zelensky warned on Saturday that Ukraine would not give land to Russia for peace. He said on social media, "Ukrainians will not give their land to an occupier."
However, Trump made it clear that he wants a ceasefire, but it will be up to Ukraine to accept or reject the deal with Russia.
I am not going to make any compromises. It is not in my hands to make a compromise. I think there should be a compromise for both."
