He announced that the much-awaited next-generation GST reform (GST 2.0) will begin tomorrow, September 22nd, coinciding with the first day of Navratri. The PM extended Navratri greetings to the nation and stated that GST 2.0 is a major step towards a self-reliant India.
What important things did PM Modi say in this address?
GST Savings Festival: The PM called these reforms "GST Savings Festival." He said that people will now be able to purchase goods and services at lower prices, which will "double the joy of this festive season."
Tax Relief:
99% of goods that were previously in the 12% tax slab will now be in the 5% slab.
Everyday essentials will become cheaper.
GST on hotel stays and travel will also be reduced.
Benefits to the Middle Class: The PM said that income up to ?12 lakh is now tax-free, which is a major relief for the middle and new middle class. He called it a "double gift" for the poor and middle class.
From Poverty to Prosperity: In the last 11 years, 250 million people have emerged from poverty and become part of the new middle class. They now have new dreams and aspirations.
Big Savings: GST 2.0 will allow people to save ?2.5 lakh crore this year.
Citizens are Gods: The PM appealed to businesses and citizens to embrace the spirit of "Nagrik Devo Bhava," prioritizing people. He said shopkeepers are enthusiastic about passing on GST savings to consumers.
Promoting MSMEs: The PM said MSMEs are the backbone of India's "golden economic years." GST reforms will reinvigorate them. He urged MSMEs to produce high-quality products that enhance India's global reputation.
The mantra of Swadeshi: The PM appealed for a return to indigenous values. He said we should adopt "Made in India" products in everyday life. "Even the comb in our pocket should proudly be Made in India. Say with pride, 'This is Swadeshi.'"
The path to a developed India: The PM urged state governments to promote manufacturing and attract investment. He linked GST reforms to India's journey to becoming a developed nation.
